Frequently Asked Questions

Who are The Christie Charity?

The Christie Charity funds care and treatment, research, education and services over and above what the NHS can fund. Everything we do is for the benefit of our cancer patients and their families.

How does the lottery work?

Each week your personal 6-digit lottery number (issued by Unity Lottery when you sign-up) is entered into a draw and the winning numbers are chosen at random.

You can purchase up to 20 numbers per draw for £1 each, giving you even more chances to win a number of great prizes.

Any prizes you win are issued and posted directly to you; there’s no need for you to claim. You can cancel at any time if you don’t want to remain in the draw.

How old do I have to be to enter?

You must be aged 18 or over to enter the lottery.

Can I choose my own lottery numbers?

These are chosen randomly and will be your numbers for the duration of your membership of our lottery. When you enter the lottery, you will be sent your unique numbers.

How much does The Christie Charity make from each £1 played?

From each £1 played in our lottery, The Christie Charity receives a minimum of 50p.

The rest is allocated for prizes (18.4%) and the costs of administering the lottery (31.6%).

Why is the price £4.34 per month when paying by Direct Debit?

The monthly cost breakdown of £4.34 for playing the lottery is based on paying £1 per week over a 52 week year.

As Direct Debits are only collected once monthly, sometimes there will be 5 weeks in a month and the additional £0.34p is to build up credit to cover the fifth week on the 5-week months.

How will I know if I'm in the draw?

Within 21 days of registration you will receive a confirmation letter which contains details of your unique lottery number(s) and the date of the first draw your tickets are entered into.

You will be entered into the draw when you have monies available and you will continue to be entered into the draw as long as you have monies available against your lottery number.

How will I know if I've won?

The draw takes place every Friday. Once it has taken place, winners are notified by post or email.

If you match 4 digits or more, you will be sent your winnings automatically, either directly into your bank (if playing by Direct Debit), or via a cheque sent in the post.

If you match 3 digits you will be sent an email to confirm your win and your temporary 5 prize entry lottery numbers for the following week's draw.

How much does it cost The Christie Charity if I win?

Nothing! The draw works as a number-match game, meaning that the cost of prizes are already covered by the time that prize is won. In the event that someone does win sooner, our partners at Unity Lottery cover the cost.

If you win 5 entries into the next draw, The Christie Charity actually receive £2.50 as part of the 50p from every £1 played.

Can I support The Christie Charity in other ways?
